My Viper did the 'cant find memory header' bit when I swapped from 8mb to 16mb
and it turned out to be a fault on the sim. Any way of checking the sim on
another board?

Can't argue with that. Let's hope we see a vast GUI improvement in future OS
updates/rewrites. Especially the hi-res friendly window borders that shrink
to half size on graphics cards. I could dispense with another hack then. :)

How many Amiga games do you know of that were released on 1.76MB
disks? My Micronik (I presume that's what it is) floppy drive, set as
DF0, can boot Amiga DD floppies, I've never tried making a bootable HD
floppy, I'll try it next time I'm at home.

You don't need 2 separate mountlists, IIRC I didn't have to make any
modifications to the DOSDriver to get it to recognise HD disks.

How much would you be willing to pay? It only costs =A312.50, assuming
you already have a registered version of Netconnect, or MagicWB, or
MultiCX, or any of the Netconnect programs. Even if you don't, it still
only costs =A33 more.

Yes Kev, don't panic, you're in the hat. The odds of winning are
better than the lottery, but they're still pretty low.
Fingers crossed then ;)

I wasn't referring to 1760K disks; just referring to disks i boot from

problem sometimes under emulation. The latter is crucial; it's why I'm
getting a HD drive because I have suffered under PC-Task/PCx and
ShapeShifter under DD disks for too long! :)
All the best,
Nick.

Surprising as it might seem, I've just not got around to it yet. All my
PPC stuff works with p5's libs, so I've no need (as of yet) to swap ....

You were... you said 'Echo >>ram:myfile "%%*n"' and the "*n" is not
required, Echo puts it in automagically unless you use the "NOLINE"
argument.

I'm sure if there were any pirates about they'd respond pretty pronto =)
But thats just the sort of thing Im talking about with the depth of the
game. I want people to respond to my SOSs, I want to be able to post
messages to the bulletin board, just like everyone else on the
planet/orbiter can. I want to go to dock side bars, get drunk and kill
someone in a brawl, and I want to be able to hold planets to ransom with
that large plasma driver I just bought =)

Maybe I could poen it up and manually spin the disks! ;)

Perhaps a case of those who burn twice as bright burn for half as long.
Or atleast, those who have twice the space spin for half as long. =)
Cos my toshiba 80M 2.5" hdd is been going for ages. Its probably at
least 5 years old and its working fine.
Damned good job I'd just backed up my decent music to my Amiga.

Sat outside a space station for a day once, with a large plasma
accelerator firing into the docking bay. Cleaned out their police fleet
but didn't even scratch the station. At the risk of sounding
patronising, it sounds as if you're waiting for E2260. The sole (not
quite) reason I want a PPC and graphics card.

Start a text file with @database and then have a look at a bunch of other
amigaguides in a text editor to see how to do (or look for an old issue of
AF where we did a tutorial).

Surely with a util such as Heddley available then it's pointless anyway?
Kev
PS Any chance of a beginners guide to PPC software? Maybe more relevant
when Gx's are out along with FusuionPPC, but it'll give you something to
write about ... could be coupled with a(nother) CD full of lovely PPC
progs ...

Sureley with a util such as MS FrontPage 2000 available then it's not worth
learning to code HTML...

Obviously some crossed wires here. We were expecting *BVisions* imminently
from DCE. We have never expected G4's until well after Easter - even when
phase 5 were solvent.
Currently we're looking to see if its economically feasible to pick up the
design/development and roll it forward into manufacturing, either alone or
in partnership with someone like DCE.

Out of the window :-(
Unless someone knows if FW can handle Word documents fully, and if there's
an update to TC5 that can handle newer Excel stuff?
I said that as long as they saved them in older formats, everything would
be fine, but was shouted down :(

Thanks Ben for phoning Power; that's very kind of you. :) The PowerXL
drive was first released in 1994 iirc; and at that time, =A320,000 spent
on the Amiga market isn't as ludicrous as it is today! :) Bit stupid
chucking the all away though! Well, I don't blame Tony for not getting
a new batch =A320,000 is a lorra money in the Amiga market these days!

I must admit something here; I'm sure my brain fills up and forgets
things I haven't done for yonks! :) Case point: I used to write
AmigaGuides all the time by hand; then I learnt Blitz around 1996 and
since then I have forgotten how to write them; therefore I use Heddley!
:)
/me mumbles lazy git :)
All the best,
Nick.

I honestly thought it would be worse than that Ben, more like 9,000

Subject: [afb] Welcome FAQ revisited
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Hi all,
Here's the updated FAQ. Let me know what you think:
---8<---
*Welcome to afb!*
*Please don't delete this message. If you want to unsubscribe from*
*afb, it will tell you what to do. Just keep it to one side, in your*
*archived folder, or some such.*
Since the list is pretty high on traffic, I think you should know
what to expect on your first day on the list. Here is a list of
points to bear in mind. They aren't in any particular order, so just
read through them all:
*Unsubscribing* You don't actually have to unsubcribe from the list
if the traffic is too high for you, you can just switch your
subscription to being web-based, or a daily digest. If you really do
want to unsubscribe, go to http://www.egroups.com/group/afb/
*Delayed Posting* afb has a lot of messages every day. If you don't
have a permanent network connection, you'll find that it pays to read
through all the mails before replying, since the question you are
replying to may well have already been answered several times in the
time between you receiving the initial mail and your reply.
*Polls* If you want to set a poll, have a careful think about it
first. Mill the question over in your mind and work out how you can
best word it to fit into a maximum of eight choices for an answer.
Once you've done that, think again on how you want to word your
question so that no-one can pick a hole in it and say they would have
chosen an option you didn't include. After that bit, fill out the
form on the website for creating a poll, but remember to put a date
in your text! Look at the other polls on the page already for
guidance on where to put it, and remember, if your poll doesn't have
a date, it'll get cancelled.
*Quoting* Please pay attention to how others quote on the list. We
don't like PC-style quoting of the entire message with your reply at
the top. We also don't like "proper"-style quoting yet, with the
entire original message quoted. There are plenty of folk on the list
who have to pay to download messages, don't make them pay more than
they have to.
*Writing* If you're going to post, please wait a moment before
sending it. Does it add to the information on afb, or merely repeat
it? Are you going to insult someone (don't do it!)? Check your
spelling and grammar, I don't think that many on the list are English
graduates, but even so.
*Replying* Make sure you quote properly (qv.), make sure you don't
insult people, make sure your reply is necessary and that someone
hasn't already given the info.
*MANAGER posts* Please make sure you read them. There'll be a
concrete reason for them, so you can guarantee they'll be important.
*Moderation* There is a limit of 150 posts per day on afb. The daily
limit is from 8AM to 8AM GMT the following day (because of the fact
that eGroups are based on the west coast of the States and are thus
eight hours behind GMT). If you receive a moderation message, this
isn't a cue for you to ask the list owner why you are being moderated
(the reason for moderation is almost always given in the moderation
message body). Just wait and if your message is really worth it,
re-post the following day.
*Bouncing* If you find that messages aren't getting to you, simply
send yourself a message from the afb website at
http://www.egroups.com/group/afb/. That usually clears up your
bouncing. Bouncing status is checked every so often anyway, so it's
unlikely this will happen.

So it's not worth dropping the floppy version yet, then? Would that
cut costs?

It would, but 1,200 people buying the issue, as opposed to 1,200 people just
giving up on their Amigas because they aren't going to buy a CD-ROM drive
might be enough to close the mag.

Is it a case of them buying the DD version 'coz they can't get the CD
version???

I wouldn't think so since the floppy edition is usually harder to find
(since it's a firm sale magazine, which means that shops can't simply send
the issues back for a refund at the end of the month, meaning that it's
actually a risk to stock it).

Doesn't really work though, does it? It's "scintillate" anyway, and there's
no way you can simply swap "star" for "asteroid".

I tried scintillate, but it didn't look right, and a star IS an asteroid in
the dictionary definition of the word, is it not?

No. An asteroid has to orbit the sun, apparantly. If you choose your
definition carefully you may be able to class an asteroid as a star though
- "any of the celestial bodies visible at night from Earth as relatively
stationary, usually twinkling points of light".
But I think astronomers would have a fit if you tried to tell them that
asteroids and stars were the same things ;)

I meant to say: If 0-99 is the first hundred, *2900-2999* is the thirthieth

generating properties rather than their computing ability.

Hmmm, if I could make it to a Bristol SWAG meeting I'd only be to happy
to buy you many many packets of crisps and beer. Problems with that (I
am a SWAG member btw and I will get the newsletter online asap btw! :)
are:
* I'm 100 miles away from Bristol
* I'm almost Seventeen
* Which means legally I cannot drive :) (though I can!)
* I cannot afford the taxi there ;))
* Bus's don't go that far! :)
My solution; I'll send 'em to ya! :) Will it arrive if I sent the
goods to:
Poor Peeps
Some Office
30 Monmouth St.
Bath
:)
All the best,
Nick.
